Overview and Benefits

Experiential Learning provides students the opportunity to apply course content to practical experience and develop personal, academic, and work competencies. To accomplish this goal students complete learning objectives and respond to reflective questions each semester they participate in our programs. Research suggests that reflecting on these opportunities helps students clarify theroretical constructs and apply knowledge learning in the classroom to a variety of settings. Further, our faculty consult with emploers and visit students at their work site to ensure the environment is conducive to learning and appropriate for each student‘s academic and professional goals.

Experiential Learning is an instructional unit reporting to Undergraduate Studies. When participating in our programs, students are registered for variable credit (0-5 credit hours per semester) and receive a Pass or Fail on their transcript each term. Each faculty member in the Experiential Learning office has earned a Master‘s or Doctoral degree and considers student learning to be of paramount importance.

Periodically, a student may bring you a form from our office related to credit. This occurs when a student wants to earn credit for what they learn in a co-op or internship experience. This credit may be issued through your department or through Experiential Learning. To earn credit through Experiential Learning, the student needs verification from their department that it will count toward their degree program. The FTE for credit awarded through Experiential Learning is applied to the department matching the course prefix.

Our goal is to work in partnership with you.
